What to do if my child is ill?

It is usually appropriate for parents and carers to send their children to school with mild respiratory illnesses. This would include general cold symptoms: a minor cough, runny nose or sore throat. However, children should not be sent to school if they have a temperature of 38°C or above. We would encourage you to look at NHS: is my child too ill for school guidance for parents and carers which has further information.

If your child is to be absent then please ring the school number 01706 369443 before 9:10am and let the office know the reason for your child’s absence. You can speak to a member of staff or leave a message, please state the nature of the illness in the message.

For persistent illness, you may be asked for a doctor’s note or medical appointment card.

Please be aware that you must contact the school every day to report the absence, not just on the first day.

If we do not hear from you, we may have to phone to ensure you and your child are safe. If we are unable to reach you this may trigger a home visit to check on you and your child’s welfare.  This is part of our safeguarding approach.
